Hasbro President Eric Nyman Announced as Founders Day Speaker
Eric Nyman, a 1994 Virginia Wesleyan graduate and president of Hasbro North America, will serve as keynote speaker for Founders Day. Nyman will also be honored during the event with the Distinguished Alumnus Award along with fellow 2019 Alumni Awards recipients Candice E. Driskell '94 (Alumni Service Award), Wallace R. Driskell, Jr. '00 (Alumni Service Award), and Amari Agee '15 (Graduate of the Last Decade Award). The Founders Day Convocation will take place on campus Thursday, September 5, at 11 a.m. in the Joan and Macon Brock Theatre of the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center. People, Prosperity and the Planet
Virginia Wesleyan has been awarded its second grant ($15,000) from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Inspired by the living laboratory surrounding VWU's new Greer Environmental Sciences Center, the current project, "Vermicompost from Stormwater Phycoremediation," is designed to study the use of phycoremediation to remove water pollutants from stormwater ponds and treatment wetlands. Developing a Scientific Mindset Research was a vital part of Mayanni McCourty's undergraduate experience at VWU. When McCourty '19 graduated from Virginia Wesleyan in May, it was with numerous experiences as a researcher. As an Earth and Environmental Sciences major, McCourty's journey in research began during her very first year at VWU. Her research, which was later published in the Journal of Soil Use and Management in 2018, examined the influence of agricultural manipulation on decomposition and soil respiration. More |

Athletic Hall of Fame Nominations Due August 31
The Office of Alumni Relations is accepting nominations for the next class of the VWU Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF). Nominations for the Class of 2020 are open until August 31, 2019. To submit a nomination, please email a completed form to alumni@vwu.edu.
The Â鶹´«Ã½rtb Athletic Hall of Fame was established by resolution of the Board of Trustees on May 16, 2007 to honor those who, by outstanding achievement in athletics, by service to athletics, or through significant contributions to athletics, have made lasting contributions to Virginia Wesleyan's intercollegiate athletic program.
