Campus Cooperative

Similar to the Federal Work-Study Program, students with proven financial need are eligible to apply for positions through the Campus Cooperative Program. Positions  available through the Campus Cooperative Program are supported through institutional funding. Student positions will assist with institutional operations.

Students offered a position will receive a tuition credit of up to $2,500 annually (depending upon position). This credit will be applied directly to the student account. In return, students are required to work 10 hours each week for the academic year.

Features of Participating with the Campus Cooperative Program:

  • The opportunity to select from a listing of job openings.
  • Develop experience outside of the classroom while being paid.
  • Related work experience gained may be listed on your resume.
  • Develop professional and personal friendships with their Team Leaders and co-workers.
  • Team Leaders will generally offer a work reference for growth opportunities after graduation.

Some Community Services positions offer work experience off-campus (must have transportation, driver's license, and proof of insurance).

Academic Affairs, Office Assistant

The Office of Academic Affairs is in need of a Work Study-eligible student available to work 10-12 hours per week. Confidentiality is paramount in Academic Affairs, therefore a good candidate must be dependable, organized, ethical, and mature. All tasks and information must be treated as confidential. The work study student will sign a confidentiality waiver as a condition of employment.

Possible projects and tasks include:

  • General Office Duties: scanning, filing, data entry, copying, and shredding
  • On-Campus Errands: Delivery and pickup of mail, packages, and other items
  • Organizing office supplies, faculty work rooms, and other spaces, as needed
  • Project Research
  • Answering the phone and taking messages
  • Updating academics-focused bulletin boards on campus
  • Assist office with special projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications for the Position:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Attention to detail
  • Discretion regarding confidential information as defined above
  • Past experience working with bulletin boards and/or general office equipment a plus
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Programs
  • Junior or Senior status preferred
  • Professional dress strongly encouraged

Batten Honors College, Office Assistant

The Batten Honors College office is seeking an honors student worker for the upcoming academic year.

This student worker will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • coordinating volunteers for recruitment events
  • editing newsletter
  • calling prospective students and parents (at least two evenings per week)
  • coordinating program activities with faculty and administrators
  • representing honors college at recruitment events
  • general office tasks (i.e. data entry, typing, assembling folders)

Student Engagement, Off the Hook Event Supervisors

Off the Hook provides social, educational, and community-building activities on campus, with a strong focus on weekend events. WAC is the primary programming arm of the Office of Student Engagement, thus it supports the mission of the office.

Duration: Academic Year 2020-2021

Requirements:

  • Event Supervisors who must be full-time undergraduate students in good standing with the University and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
  • Supervisors must be a positive representation of VWU and its core values.

Jane P. Batten Student Center, Building Manager

Must be able to take and understand directions, perform duties with minimum supervision, be flexible, and maintain an attractive and functional facility.
Primary responsibilities include:

  • scheduling, opening and closing the building
  • assist in disciplinary procedures
  • ensuring that all areas are secure with proper personnel and equipment security of the facility
  • troubleshooting problems within the facility

Enrollment, Wesleyan Ambassador

The Center for Enrollment Services at Â鶹´«Ã½rtb is seeking part-time Wesleyan Ambassadors. Students in this position represent the university and showcase what it means to be a Marlin. Wesleyan Ambassadors are the connection between prospective students and have the power to strongly influence the decision to attend VWU. Students must have a positive attitude and the ability to connect with strangers. Prospective students and their families come to the Ambassadors for the inside scoop of Virginia Wesleyan!

Hours: Ambassadors will work 10 hours each week. Tours leave at 11am and 2pm Monday through Friday and 11am on Saturday. Ambassadors are expected to arrive at 10:30am and 1:30pm accordingly.

Expectations:

  • Give tours, attend monthly training, miscellaneous office tasks, and work special events such and Marlins Day and Dinner on Us.
    Professionalism both in terms of appearance, work ethic, and interactions with guests both on and off the clock are a must.
  • Communication with the Ambassador Program Directors is important. If an email or message is sent out that requires a response, the expectation is to reply as soon as possible.
    Project your enthusiasm for VWU! The message should be appropriate and never negative.
  • Academics must remain #1

A student is needed to provide assistance to the Office of Finance Staff in daily operations. Informational Technology Help Desk Technician

The Malbon Information Technology Center at Â鶹´«Ã½rtb is seeking Part-Time Helpdesk Technician. The position entails working closely with the informational technology team in support of fellow students, faculty and staff.Ìý They will answer calls and provide troubleshooting solutions on computer related issues. When required provide instructions on how to operate classroom technology.Ìý This is a customer service position; therefore, the candidate must be dependable and courteous.Ìý

Hours: Monday–Friday, 0830AM-12:30PM or 1230-4:30 PM (Will work around class schedule)

This position requires:

  • a basic knowledge of computers and common software packages

Goode Center Staff

Duties Include: 

  • Assists in running Front of House and Backstage for all events put on by the Fine & Performing Arts Department
  • Assists in the construction, painting, and installation of scenery, props, and costumes for the Mainstage Productions
  • Assists in running events hosted in the Goode Center
  • Assists in upkeep and maintaining the Brock and Hofheimer Theatres 
  • Supports all areas of the Fine & Performing Arts Department (Music, Fine Arts, Theatre) as needed 

Schedule: 

Must be able and willing to work flexible hours with nights and/or weekend hours as scheduled by the supervisor.

Skills Required Are: 

  • Ability to climb a 14 foot ladder
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds

Learning Center, Office Assistant

The Learning Center is recruiting responsible student workers who:

The Lighthouse- International Student Assistant

The Lighthouse seeks a student to assist with our growing international student population.Ìý

Duties will include: 

  • Promoting, setting up, and assisting with on-campus events

  • Be a source of information for VWU’s international students and answer questions related to resources on campus.

  • Provide weekly to biweekly shuttle service to the store for international students to pick up essentials.Ìý
